Bodija crisis :Butchers association calls for thorough investigation

By  Adebimpe Soga-oke

The National Butchers Union of Nigeria (NUBN) have appealed to the Oyo State Government and the security agencies to thoroughly investigate the crisis that occurred at the Bodija market on Thursday,  which claimed five lives.

The appeal was made by the NUBN South Western Coordinator, including Kwara state, Mr Biliaminu Elesinmeta, at a news conference, where  Oyo State Government Officials were present,  and members of  butchers union in Oyo state,  as well as Bodija Traders.

Elesinmeta expressed displeasure over the incident,  saying  butchers got a favourable deal in the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed with the government; he however  wondered why the yesterday's occurrence degenerated to violence of that nature.

Politics Tempo recalls that the state Government had earlier directed the butchers in Bodija market to relocate to a new site at Amosun Village, as part of its urban renewal drive.
