Osun 2018: Group carpets 'West' agitators

By Owolabi Labode

A socio-political group in Osun state, Development Advocacy Group(DAG) has described those clamouring for the West senatorial district to produce the next governor as being mischievous and deceitful, saying such agitation is inimical to the tenets of democratic principles.

This was contained in a statement   signed by the Publicity Secretary of the group, Comrade Wasiu Ibraheem and  made available to newsmen in Osogbo.

Ibrahim, specifically  condemned the recent protests by some group to press home the demand for "West Agenda" describing it as self serving and provocative.

He alleged that the  protesters were paid agents hired by ' lazy politicians' in the state to deliberately orchestrate the reordering of the process of determining the governor of  the state which call for serious concern  in the interest of democracy, adding that divisive and hate speech  spreading rapidly among people must me curtailed for the purpose of peace

"People of good conscience with historical precision of the political evolution of the state had demonstrated apathy towards this retrogressive and fraudulent campaign  which they considered to be of less substance when subjected to logic of  common sense.

“After a thorough evaluation of this sectional agenda by a few selfish,  self serving and unpopular politicians, whose stock in trade is to milk the state dry always, it then becomes pertinent to put the record straight and deconstruct this satanic narratives in the interest of our dear state and it's future.

“We say unequivocally that the said gathering did not represent the voice of the Osun West Senatorial district, rather, the parochial interest of the very few parasites that had always taken advantage to cause division among the ever united people of Osun State.

“It is important to ask them, since their over three decades hold on to control of political opportunities in the area, how many of the people have they impacted?  The answer is self evident in the reality around the district", Ibrahim said.

According to him,  zoning  agitation is unknown to the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria or any political party any where in the country.

He said such agitation  is an extension of the same divisive mechanism deployed by selfish  elites in the country along religion,  ethnicity and gender to perpetually hold the ordinary Nigerian in the  jugular.

“If this agitation is not quickly put down by well meaning people of the state, it would divide the state so sharply along every unthinkable sentiment that would draw the state back in hundreds.

“Clamour for 'West Lokan' governorship slot does not represent fairness and justice as we are made to believe, rather what is justice and equity is for political parties to provide a level playing field for all aspirants that is qualified to stake their chances based on their manifestoes.

“Therefore, the clarion call of every progressive minded and development conscious people from the Osun West Senatorial district is The Best and Not the West " .
