The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Osun, on Saturday organised a novelty match to honour a former Secretary General of Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) late Chief Taiwo Ogunjobi.
The match was between staff of NYSC and female football team of the 2019 Batch A corps members, at the permanent Orientation camp of the corps located in Ede, Osun State.
It ended 1-0, in favour of the NYSC combined team, and the lone goal was scored by the state coordinator of NYSC, Mr Emmanuel Attah.
Meanwhile, Attah, in his earlier remarks said the late NFF secretary general was being honoured as a friend of the scheme and for his contributions to the development of football in Nigeria .
Attah said the death of Ogunjobi came as a rude shock to everyone, as he recalled the last novelty match that was played in December 2018, in which Ogunjobi officiated as a referee, and was also given a medal of honour by Governor of the state, Mr Gboyega Oyetola.
The NYSC state coordinator, who served as a member of the Super Eagles’ technical team under late Steven Keshi, recounted his relationship with the late NFF boss.
“Chief Ogunjobi was the first person that appointed me as the camp Commandant of under 17 and welfare officer of under 20 and 23 and from there I moved to the super eagles.
” Ogunjobi was my mentor; that is just the summary. He was still on the NFF board when I was the super eagles’ coordinator.
“I will miss his advice and everything about him because he was so passionate about football and always encouraging everyone never to give up in whatever you do in life,” Attah averred.
Daily Post recalls that Ogunjobi died on Feb. 11 at the University College Hospital (UCH) Ibadan, Oyo State after a brief illness.
