Trader Stabs Masquerade’s Follower In Akure

There was palpable tension in Akure, Ondo State on Sunday when an Ibo trader allegedly stabbed a masquerade follower.

The action from the trader led to a clash between Ibo traders and Akure youths.

It was gathered that Security agents were deployed to the area to enforce peace and sanity.

As confirmed by a security agent who was there to restore peace, he said the fracas errupted as one one of the followers of Akure masquerades was stabbed by an Ibo man.

According to him, the Akure youths then mobilized themselves against the Ibos in the market, leading to mayhem.

It was gathered that the victim has been rushed to the hospital.

Reacting, the Chief Press Secretary to the Deji of Akure said the situation is now under control. 

“An Ibo man stabbed an Akure man while the Akure people re-enforced themselves at Odo-petu community.

“The man was injured and has been taken to a nearby clinic. The security men handled the situation to restore peace.

“At this period the Kabiyesi has finished every celebrations. These fallout celebrations could be done without causing unrest in the town.”
