Oyetola Appoints New President for Osun Customary Court Of Appeal

Osun State Governor, Gboyega Oyetola has appointed Justice Wasiu Akanbi as the President of the Osun Customary Court of Appeal.

This is contained in a letter sent to the State House of Assemby on Thursday which was read by the Speaker, Timothy Owoeye.

According to Owoeye, he said the governor made the appointment based on the recommendation of National Judicial Council.

Owoeye said the governor was sending the name of the appointee to the house for ratification based on section 28 (1) of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (amended) Constitution .

The speaker, however, called on the appointee to submit 35 copies of his curriculum vitae (CV) to the Assembly between Thursday and Monday and that he should also appear before the House on Tuesday, Feb.2, for screening.

Earlier, the Assembly organised an interdenominational praised and worship prayer session to usher in the 2021 legislative year.

The prayer session which was organised for the assembly staff and lawmakers was presided over by the assembly Speaker, Mr Timothy Owoeye.

Prayers were rendered by Muslim and Christian members of the assembly commission , while the Imam of the Assembly Mosque and the Chaplain of the Assembly Chapel gave scriptural reading and teaching.

Lawal Approves 28 Games For Osun Sports' Festival

Osun State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Yemi Lawal has approved 28 different sports for the upcoming sports fiesta that will cut across the nooks and crannies of the state. This is contained in a statement issued by the Public Relations Officer of the Sports' Council, Mrs Funmilayo Moradeyo on Wednesday. The approved sports are; football, volleyball, basketball, handball; hockey, cricket, table tennis, chess, ayo olopon, draft, scrabble, boxing; Taekwondo and kick- boxing. Others are; Para- powerlifting, konfu, karate, judo, wrestling, swimming, athletics, badminton, squash, cycling tennis and weightlifting. The commissioner in a meeting with the Sports Council staff, coaches and local government sports coordinators, observed that "it is high time we started to develop sports from the grassroot, put the age limit of the athlete that  can feature in the sports fiesta to be 15- 29. As part of the reunion programme of the 2001 set of Management & Accounting Department of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-ife, the association has renovated several classrooms and other facilities in the Faculty of Administration.
