Man Drenches Pastor With Urine, Egg During Service
Members of a church in Ajipowo area in Akure, Amazing Bible Ministry, are still reeling from the rude shock when a church member barged into one of their sunday services, charged at the pastor, one Abiodun Michael on the pulpit and pummeled him with fist blows.
Not only that, the 30-year-old man, Uche Kingsley was also said to have smashed a native egg on the clergy man’s body and afterwards poured urine which he had kept in a bowl on the pastor who was already befuddled by the onslaught.
It was like a drama as some of the church members who were faint-hearted had fled for their lives as the church service was disrupted while some stout men among them had held down the assaillant and got him arrested by the police.
The question on the lips of the church members and residents of the vicinity was; what went wrong? Why would a church member who should hold his pastor in awe and respect turn around to desecrate him, with urine no less?
However, The Hope reliably gathered that none of the complainant and the accused person could offer any coherent explanation for the ugly development.
Uche Kingsley had since been charged to court and was arraigned before an Akure Chief Magistrates’ Court for alleged assault, breach of peace and pouring urine and spiritual egg on one Abiodun Michael, the pastor of the church.
The accused person was said to have committed the offences on February 21, 2021 around 7:00am, during a Sunday service at the church premises.
The Prosecutor, Inspector Adeoye Adesegun, told the court that the accused person indeed assaulted the man of God by throwing punches at him and poured urine and spiritual egg with charm on him.
He added that the accused person conducted himself in a manner to cause the breach of peace by entering into the church and committing the offence.
The Hope gathered that the Pastor knew the accused person very well and he has rendered assistance to him on several occasions.
The complainant also gave the accused person odd jobs so he could be able to feed.
According to the prosecution, the whole church lost capacity as most of the congregants fled for their life during the assault on the pastor because the attack was a sudden and vicious one.
It was believed that the native egg which he threw at the pastor was a spiritual one and he had a motive for smashing it on his victim and also pouring urine on him.
The said accused person was said to have been arrested by some members of the church before he was handed over to the police.
The Hope gathered that it took them extra efforts before they could get hold on the accused person as he acted like one demented and did not show any remorse as he turned on the men with the intention to fight them off but they were able to overpower him.
The situation was like a mystery before the church members as they have never experienced such in their church.
Also, the accused person had no cogent reason to offer for his actions before the police as he sobered up following his arrest and subsequent arraignment in court.
The prosecutor told the court that it took the pastor hours before he could come back to his normal senses as the drama gave him a big shock.
According to the charge, the offence committed by the accused person contravened Sections 356 and 451 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ondo, 2002.
The charge sheet read: “That you Uche Kingsley 30, on the 21/02/2021 at about 7:00am in the morning at Ajipowo, Akure in the Akure Magisterial district, did conduct yourself in manner likely to cause breach of peace by going into the Amazing Bible Ministry with a bowl of Urine and Charms and thereby committed an offense contrary to and punishable under section 249(d) of the Criminal Code Cap 37 Vol1 Law of Ondo State Nigeria, 2002.”
“That you Uche Kingsley in the aforementioned place, date and time did unlawfully assault one Abiodun Michael by giving him a fist blow on his left eye side and thereby committed an offense contrary to and punishable under section 351 of the Criminal Code Cap 37 Vol1 Law of Ondo State Nigeria, 2006.”
Count 3 read in part. “That you Uche Kingsley on the aforementioned place, date and time did unlawfully assault one Abiodun Michael by pouring Urine on him and also threw a native egg at him and thereby committed an offense contrary to and punishable under section 351 of the Criminal Code Cap 37 Vol1 Laws of Ondo State Nigeria, 2006.”
Kingsley who was not legally represented in court however, pleaded not guilty to the three-count charge of assault and breach of peace.
The prosecutor urged the court to remand the accused person in prison custody saying that it will serve as part of the punishment he is going to pay for his offences.
In his ruling, Chief Magistrate Mayomi Olanipekun admitted the accused person to a bail of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum despite lack of solicitation on his behalf.
Olanipekun added that the sureties must swear to an affidavit of means, reside within the court’s jurisdiction and produce three recent passport photographs.
The case was adjourned till April 29, 2021 for trial.
However as at the time of filing this report, his bail has not been perfected.
Feelers has it that his family members who regarded the complainant as their benefactor was put out with the accused person and seemingly neglected him to wallow in prison.
None of them made effort to perfect his bail, hence he had to be kept under lawful custody at Olokuta correctional centre until his bail would be perfected.
However, he is billed to appear before the magistrate court for trial on April 29, 2021.
