6,900 Athletes To Participate In Osun Sports Festival—Commissioner

The upcoming Osun State Sports Festival  will feature not less than 6,900 athletes across all the Local Government in the state.

This is contained in a release issued by the Public Relations Officer of the Sports Council, Mrs Funmilayo Moradeyo.

Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Yemi Lawal who disclosed this during the  official inauguration of the chairmen of Sport Associations said the sports fiesta will be in 3 stages.

"From local level to the Zonal and finally to the state level where the best and talented male and female athletes will be discovered for the future competitions especially the forthcoming National Youth Games coming up in September this year at Ilorin."

Speaking further, the commissioner  stated that the competition is meant for only indigenenous athletes which is the  fulfilment of one of the mandates the state have in the Youth Policy Document that was launched recently.

He added that the State Sports Festival has been approved by the Governor to be annual event which he described as his strong commitment towards uplifting the youths through meaningful engagement in the state.

He said scholarship or employment would be given to best talented and hard- working athletes at the state final.

In their own contribution, the Special Adviser on sports, Aremo Adegboyega Adelabu, the Coordinating Director in the ministry of sports,  Mrs Taiwo Oladunjoye and General Manager of the Sports Ciuncil- Mr Rotimi Dunmoye commended the Commissioner for the initiative, adding that all hand must be on deck towards having a successful fiesta.

Lawal Approves 28 Games For Osun Sports' Festival

Osun State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Yemi Lawal has approved 28 different sports for the upcoming sports fiesta that will cut across the nooks and crannies of the state. This is contained in a statement issued by the Public Relations Officer of the Sports' Council, Mrs Funmilayo Moradeyo on Wednesday. The approved sports are; football, volleyball, basketball, handball; hockey, cricket, table tennis, chess, ayo olopon, draft, scrabble, boxing; Taekwondo and kick- boxing. Others are; Para- powerlifting, konfu, karate, judo, wrestling, swimming, athletics, badminton, squash, cycling tennis and weightlifting. The commissioner in a meeting with the Sports Council staff, coaches and local government sports coordinators, observed that "it is high time we started to develop sports from the grassroot, put the age limit of the athlete that  can feature in the sports fiesta to be 15- 29. OAU Reunion: Accounting Dept. 2001 Set Embarks On Massive Renovation, Visits Ooni (Photos)

As part of the reunion programme of the 2001 set of Management & Accounting Department of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-ife, the association has renovated several classrooms and other facilities in the Faculty of Administration.
