Osun: INEC, NSCDC Restate Commitment To Ensuring Peaceful Elections

In a bid to ensure peaceful and orderly conduct of elections in Osun state, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has expressed its readiness to consolidate its cooperation with the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC in the state.

INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Osun State, Prof. Raji Abdulganiyu, disclosed this during a visit to the Osun State Command of the NSCDC in Osogbo on Wednesday.

Abdulganiyu while commending Osun NSCDC for deploying officers to provide security at INEC offices throughout the state, stated that the command remained a major stakeholder as far as election in the country is concerned

He added that the corps is closer to members of the public than other security agencies.

In his address, the NSCDC Commandant, Emmanuel Ocheja, assured the INEC REC of the command’s commitment to providing security during and after elections in the state, also stressed that proactive intelligence is paramount to make the task easier for both parties.

He hinted that the corps was planning to launch its female armed and rapid response squad whose aim is to effectively carry out operations and address distress calls statewide.

The NSCDC boss explained that their establishment would further help to beef up security in the state and give the residents a safe blanket to go about their daily business activities.
