Fmr SARS Operatives Kill Suspect In Custody, To Pay N50m Compensation

For killing a suspect, Mustapha Idris Muhammad in custody, Kano State High Court has ordered two operatives of the disbanded Special Anti Robbery Squad, SARS, to pay N50m to the deceased's family.

The operatives, SP Uba Bangajiya and Inspector Garba Galadima in 2019 arrested Mustapha Idris Muhammad for alleged armed robbery.

The duo were charged before the court for alleged extrajudicial killing.

Counsel to the family of the deceased, Mustapha Hikima said the SARS officials arrested and detained the deceased for 14 days, beat and tortured him to death

In his judgement, Justice Y M Ubale said the defunct SARS operatives were found guilty of the offence and ordered them to pay the deceased family the sum of N50m.

He also said the duo should present a public apology to the families of the deceased and also ordered them to return the deceased phone which is still in their possession.
